The list went on, but it wasn’t the content of the list that was important. The important part was that the nonbeliever was open to the idea of believing if some sort of condition was met. Things got interesting when the nonbeliever turned the tables and challenged the theist to produce a list of things that would make him switch over to Team-No-God. The theist-turned-atheist who made the video admitted that when his friend posed this challenge, he felt there was nothing that could make him change his mind, and that realization started his journey. He believed in God, but he also wanted to be open-minded. Not providing someone with an opportunity or any conditions that could change your views is the opposite of being open-minded.

As an educator, someone committed to lifelong learning, and a person who found significance in being smart, I didn’t want to be closed-minded. This man’s question—what would persuade you that there is no God?—challenged me to find conditions upon which I would no longer believe. What I discovered left me silent. It felt like a breaking point. I didn’t want to abandon my lifelong relationship with God, but I was no longer allowed the luxury of blind faith.

For instance, I’d always thought that people who don’t believe in God also don’t have morals because only God teaches moral lessons. But when I started talking to my atheist friends, I found more questions than answers.
